Telephone

First, Ka-Tel will seek to replace their current would be country code with +883 which was the country code for the defunct iNum platform. By resurrecting this number, it will assure that Kaldus will have a 3 digit country code which will be sought. It will also provide SIP based telephone services with people outside Kaldus. Subscriber numbers will be 12 digit for a 3+12 digit telephone number. 12 digits is the most a subscriber number can be without breaking anything. The reason for this, is Ka-Tel wants to not only provide service for the citizen of Kaldus, but for anyone in the world. This will be done using SIP (Session Initiated Protocol) which is the standard protocol for VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). Any SIP compatible device will work with the Kaldan telephone system. With that in mind, it would make sense to resurrect the +883 country code. This domain will assume that Kaldus will have a country code of +883. The subscriber will automatically have 10 numbers. The number ending is 0 will be fax only whereas numbers ending in 1-9 will be for services. If the customer only has 1 telephone number, then the 9 remaining numbers will go straight to voicemail. Those that don’t have any telephone service plan can continue to acquire voicemail only service, although they will have to set their access PIN in Ka-Tel’s management portal.

In this section, you would find n, x, or z referenced with the number. For n, it is 2-9, x is 0-9, and z is 1-9. This is a recognized standard when noting telephone numbers, and will be important in this section. Ka-Tel will distribute numbers based on the country of the subscriber. If the subscriber is a Kaldan citizen, they will get a 520 telephone number. Citizens of other countries will get a different first set of digits. This is to reduce the chance of scam. For example, the scammer will have a harder time to note that they are a Kaldan citizen if their number does not begin with 520. Any Kaldan number can call any other Kaldan number as a domestic number. For example, I, as a US citizen will receive an 872 number. So I will not be able to tell a Kaldan I am a Kaldan citizen since my Kaldan number will begin with 872. Since a foreign citizen may not always live in Kaldus, their number will be a SIP number. Anyone visiting the country will receive a 201 telephone number. If they have a Kaldan NIN, then that number+z will be used. This number can be converted to and from SIP when visiting and returning home.

All telephone subscribers will have access to an online portal. This portal will allow the subscriber to set up Anonymous Call Rejection, black lists, listen to their voicemail, and setup additional numbers for services such as fax numbers. They will also be able to turn off an on select features. For example, they may want to turn off number display which will show the recipient of the call as Anonymous. They can also turn off features such as Call Waiting. To access voicemail, one will dial *86 on a SIP phone, or press and hold 1 on a cellular phone. As mentioned, they can go to https://ka-tel.ka/login to listen to their voicemail over the internet. For SIP phones, they can have a speed dial system which will be *75xx. This is only applicable for SIP phones since cellular phones will have the directory already in the phone.

They will also use the portal to add or modify content on their directory page. Every subscriber will be required to disclose their name (legal) and telephone number. This information can be found by going to https://411.tel.ka. The page displayed will look a lot like a conventional .tel site (you can refer to http://fsp.tel to see). There will be more complete information in the page, and beyond the 2 required information fields, everything else is voluntary. Also, based on the information provided, there will be a link to a .vcf file which the site visitor will be able to download to their phone.

As for compatibility, all POTS based phones will be sold out of stock, but no new stock will be allowed. This is to phase out the POTS phone system as quickly as possible. To connect current old fashion phones to the phone network, an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) will be required. The phone plugs into the ATA, and the ATA will plug into a RJ45 jack. Otherwise, a customer can buy a SIP phone, or a Wifi phone. They can also acquire a SIP client for their smartphone. Likewise, basic cellular phones will be phased out in adopting smartphones as the only future solution. While some people may disagree with this action, there will also be people that would disagree with modernizing the phone network. By requiring smartphones only, the community can move into the current times, and future. Simply put, there is no need to have a basic phone, and it is too limiting for the needs of most people. If the demand is that great, they can always import a basic phone from an online retailer, but this will require extra work. One excellent example of using a smartphone is for voluntary 2FA which will be required when logging in from an unknown device. This prevents a bad actor from getting access to the account if they learned the UID, and password.
