Registering a .ka domain will have support for name servers. This will mean that you can use another hosting company for service. This could be good if they already pay for a hosting plan that offers unlimited domains. However, there are services that would be provided by Ka-Tel exclusively for .ka domains. Ka-Tel will not be in the business of hosting websites. There is already a stiff competition for such services. However, for those that would need hosting, and Ka-Tel will support their needs, you can then choose to host their .ka domain with Ka-Tel.
Name Servers
Every domain will require a name server. .ka domains will be no different. If the you wish to use Ka-Tel’s hosting option, then they will set their name servers to the following:
- ns1.www.ka
- ns2.www.ka
- ns3.www.ka
- ns4.www.ka
By setting the domain to these name servers, hosting with Ka-Tel will be possible. Even if choosing the free plan, domain hosting must be activated on a per domain basis. This is to assure that space is not dedicated to domains that the owners do not wish to host with Ka-Tel.
Email Alias/Forwarding
Email alias is an address within an associated email address. The alias marker is –. Therefore, no email address can use – as part of the UID. The aliasing will use the UID-alias. For example, if you were to wish to create an alias for abc.tld, and your Email UID is frank, then the alias can be frank–abc.tld@you.ka. All aliases will go to the email account associating the alias. If you were to start receiving SPAM, or scams going to frank-abc.tld@you.ka, then you would know who is responsible for such, and you can take appropriate actions. You can choose that address in full to be on the bounce list within the control panel for your domain.
Forwarding is a little different. When one sends an email to a forwarded address, it would be redirected and sent to another email address. This could include an email address not associated with your domain. This will allow you to define certain emails to go somewhere else. You would just use the forwarding list to forward email addresses to another email address.
Email Auto-Responders
An auto-responder is an email address that would send a prepared and pre-authored message to the sender whenever it receives an email from someone. Email autoresponders can be plain text, or HTML for the purpose of composition. When creating a new autoresponder, the author will create a unique email address which can either be deleted, or forwarded to another email account. The author will also set the subject, and eventually the message. Once this is submitted, the email will send a reply automatically when someone sends an email to that address. To keep from having a continuous loop of autoresponders replying to auto-responders, an email autoresponder will only reply to a particular address only once in a 24 hour period.
Email Catch-All
An email catch-all feature is a feature where anything@you.ka will forward to a particular address within the domain. This allows you to create an email address on the fly. The exceptions to this will be actual email accounts, auto-responders, forwarders, and address set to bounce when written to. There is a condition. To reduce the chance of illicit activity, a catch-all can only send to a destination address within the same domain. Therefore, you can’t create a catch-all and send the emails received to a Gmail address.
Email with PGP, and SPF
All email accounts will support PGP, and SPF. PGP is email encryption for those email clients that support email encryption. SPF is to verify that the email actually sent through the proper email servers. With that in mind, all email with SPF verification will reduce the chances of it being a scam or SPAM, and those that are – there is evidence of illegal activity. As for email protocols, all mail servers are secured, and designed to support encryption to provide some level of privacy. There is a limit of 100MB for sending or receiving attachments.
Any email client supporting IMAP will support any .ka domain hosted by Ka-Tel. POP3 is not an option as that is considered as obsolete technology. The IMAP and SMTP server is both mail.you.ka. This is designed to keep things simple, and easy to deal with. When using your email address, and your mail server – SPF will be valid.
SPF will only support actual IMAP email accounts. For example, in the example above, frank-abc.tld@frank.ka will authenticate that the email address was sent through the service, but will not check as an actual email address. If forwarders are identified, then this will be how an alias will be identified.
MySQL Database
Almost all content management system will use MySQL to store the content. This includes Joomla, WordPress, and Wikipedia. To access the database, the programmer or administrator will use sql.you.ka. “localhost” will not work since the MySQL database is likely in a different system.
Unlimited Subdomains
Every .ka domain will have support for unlimited subdomains. Keep in mind that there is still a total cap on the hosting account as far as storage goes. Still, unlimited subdomains is supported to cater to your needs. Considering the relatively small storage support on the free plan, one may not want to do too much on the account. Even if the hosting might be small, this storage is also applicable with email services as well. The only exceptions for subdomains will include mail.you.ka, and sql.you.ka. When using the web browser to go to mail.you.ka, one will be introduced to a login for their email. At which point, they will provide their UID, and password. When going to the sql.you.ka, one will be able to log into their databases, and manage the database.
An example that an individual will want this feature is so each member of their family can have their own website. Let’s assume that John Smith is married to Jane Smith, and have two children, David, and Mary. The family can choose to acquire smith.ka (assuming it’s available). Each family member will get their own email address @smith.ka, and each member will receive a subdomain website such https://john.smith.ka, or https://mary.smith.ka. Since the domain is hosted with Ka-Tel, each address has alias capabilities setup. Mary for example can use mary-spotify.com@smith.ka if she wished to have a Spotify account. Obviously, a family will not likely use the full potential for unlimited domains, but neither will many businesses.
