Almost immediately, there will be a push for broadband internet. Every premise will need Internet service for use with the television. This might sound like it forces a subscriber to have a resource they do not wish to have, but the cost of Internet must be affordable for someone just receiving GBI. The low cost solution will allow the subscriber to get their free TV services, and this will free up airwaves for other resources such as cellular upgrades, or emergency radio services. Since the television will carry over the WAN, this will also reduce the need for a coaxial port, or coaxial jack. This will push future TVs to either being smartTVs with an RJ45 port, or a basic TV with an HDMI port for a smartTV adapter. By eliminating the need for coaxial, this will reduce the cost of renovation or construction (even if by a little). It is possible to not rely on coaxial for a television to have. Personally, I use a Tablo DVR, and the antenna plugs into the Tablo. My TV does not use the coaxial jack.
In turn, Ka-Tel will develop the Ka-TV app for every major smartTV service. This will allow the consumer to choose the TV that is best for them. Any smartTV provider that refuses to allow the Ka-TV app to be available will not be able to sell TVs with that OS on it. This is to make sure that the consumer does not buy a TV, and then be upset that they can’t watch TV because they can’t find the app. Ka-Tel will be responsible for developing the app for the TV ecosystem, but it is up to the ecosystem owner to accept the app.
